  • Abstract:
This paper discusses the results of a research project that studied the relative successes and costs associated with implementing a basic waste segregation system on a construction site. Various bins and skips were provided to allow for segregation of the waste materials. However contamination of the segregated bins and skips was high, which attracted large penalty charges. Through both qualitative and quantitative research methods based on a case study, semi-structured interviews, a postal questionnaire and a literature study; this research project has identified the key problems associated with the implementation of waste management systems and the possible costs.
